Today’s Handelsblatt article comments on the Financial Times Global MBA Rankings, released earlier this week.

Apart from the fact that London Business School remains the No.1, Stefanie Hergert points out the fact that, again, no German Full-time MBA programme has managed to make it into this year’s ranking.

TiasNimbas Business School, however, is represented with it’s successful Full-time MBA Programme, offered in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Kay LombardoMy name is Kay Lombardo and I have the pleasure to work with the Tias Nimbas part-time students.

I give them ongoing support with their personal development during their MBA by addressing the questions “Where am I at present?”; “Where do I want to be?” and “How can I achieve my goals?”

Jobs are more complex and often a different set of skills is  needed, both on a technical level and a personal level.

Students will acquire technical skills in the MBA courses, but equally as important are personal skills that can be honed through the PDP process.  By helping students set personal goals and coaching them on how to attain them, students will be in a better position to contribute  to their work and attain satisfaction at the same time.

As universities and colleges in Germany now have to change their study programmes into Bachelor and Master they have to face accreditation agencies. Since the Bologna reform, the numbers of MBA programmes in Germany have proliferated phenomenally.

There are more than 200 MBA-programmes in Germany, but only a few of them are ‘real’ MBA-programmes, which address non-economists, are international oriented and taught in English language.

“It is the missing international focus that is the deficit of German accreditation agencies. They rarely attach importance to internationality”, says Eva Niemann, responsible for the German activities of TiasNimbas Business School.

There are international accreditations like AACSB, Equis and AMBA. They set high standards. Nevertheless, none of the German agencies has the reputation of the organizations standing behind. MBA providers wanting to be visible internationally and to disassociate themselves from dummy MBA-programmes therefore count on international seals.

Eva official photo 08Dear prospective MBA Students,

My name is Dr.Eva Niemann and as the Head of Office of TiasNimbas Bonn I wish you a warm welcome to TiasNimbas Business School.

I have been involved in the German MBA-Market for over a decade now, and with great pleasure I have seen many excited new students enter the programme and many happy graduants leave TiasNimbas with a big smile after the 2-year study period of our MBA programme in Bonn.

I learned from my experience that it is the fact that these students have been working on reaching their full potential during the programme, that makes it so rewarding for them, next to achieving such a renowned MBA degree.

Our internationally accredited MBA programme has been able to attract a large number of talented and open-minded students over the past decade. I am convinced that with the long experience of TiasNimbas, you will also be able to benefit from the peronal support during our programme, which will help you grow both personally as well as professionally.

I look forward to meeting you personally on one of the upcoming MBA- Information Sessions throughout Germany.

In addition, I am also eager  to learn more about you and your personal motivation to start an MBA when we meet for the official intake-interview, which Yumi will schedule for all of you who have decided to hand in their application form.

And who knows: once you have finished your MBA-study, you may feel you still haven’t had enough and would even be eager to continue joining my DBA-Programme, of which I am the Director and which will guide you on your way to your degree as a Doctor of Business Administration.

“In Germany there are about 160 Programmes called MBA’s. Only five percent – less than 10, however, are ‘real’ MBA Programmes, which fulfil international standards.” explains Dr. Eva Niemann, Head of Office of TiasNimbas Bonn in today’s Handelsblatt-Karriere article titled: “MBA – Der Deutsche Markt wächst.”

VoigtO.jpgMy name is Oliver and I started part-time with TiasNimbas Business School in Bonn in September 2009.

I am a Biomedical Engineer by training and have worked for more than ten years with US companies in the area of artificial organs. I live in Berlin, but travel all around Europe in my current position as Director of European Clinical Support for a medical device company.

When I was looking for an MBA program, I was mainly focused on an internationally ranked business school that had a long history of teaching and a large alumni network. Initially, I contacted several Universities / Business Schools in my immediate area to avoid the logistics of being at a facility that was too far from my home.

I wasn’t very impressed with what I found.  I then contacted TiasNimbas Business School which was originally on the top of my favorites list, but was not within close distance to my home. I was very pleased with the assistance and the effectiveness of the program.

Because I have limited spare time and a good support network means a lot to me, I chose TiasNimbas, despite the distance. The required compulsory attendance time for the program is condensed to a longer weekend once a month.

I have been to modules in Utrecht and Bonn so far. I do enjoy being out for the modules. When I am away from my home office, I can better concentrate on the lectures and have no chance of being able to reach my desk after lecture is finished ;) .

I am staying at the hotel with my fellow students from abroad and we either talk about the modules or go bowling in the evening.

To me, the unique personal development plan at TiasNimbas Business School is very important. Parallel to the business knowledge from the lectures, you learn techniques for team building; receive personal mentoring to enhance your own performance such as clearly defining your personal goals and gaining strategies to accomplish them.

You never feel alone or lost in the MBA program from TiasNimbas and I am excited to participate in this program.

Clearly you will like to know as soon as possible after handing in your application form, whether you have been accepted to the programme or not.

Once the application package has reached us, there are only a few further steps to take.

nametags1. The official Intake-Interview

The moment I receive your application package, I will arrange a date & time for your intake-interview for which you will meet with Dr. Eva Niemann, Head of Office of TiasNimbas Bonn, personally.

If you live close to Bonn or in the NRW-area, this interview will take place at the Bonn office.
For candidates who live further away, there is a possibility to schedule an interview in a town closer to you.

The interview will take approx. 1 hour, in which Eva will question you in order to get to know you better as a person and learn more about your motivation to start our Part-Time MBA Programme.

After the interview Eva will give you an evaluation on how good your chances are to get accepted to the programme, and she will also advise the admissions board accordingly.

A few days after the interview, we will inform you on whether the admissions board has accepted you to the Part-Time MBA programme.

2. The Acceptance Letter

Candidates who have been admitted to the programme by the admissions board will receive an official Acceptance Letter from TiasNimbas.

In the rare event that your Gmat or TOEFL Scores have not yet reached us, candidates will receive a “conditional” letter of acceptance, which states that they will be accepted upon successful completion of both the TOEFL and Gmat Test. These candidates will receive a final acceptance letter after having handed in their final test scores.

When will I be officially enrolled in the Part-Time MBA Programme Bonn?

The moment you sign your acceptance letter and return it by mail to the TiasNimbas Bonn Office, you will be enrolled in the programme. Once we have also received your payment of the enrolment fee, your place in the upcoming class will be secured, and you are a soon-to-be official member of the TiasNimbas student-body!

classtilburgI am often being contacted by Bachelor- students who are about to finalize their Bachelor’s Degree and are wondering whether they can apply to our Part-Time MBA Programme in Bonn.

You can apply to our Part-Time MBA Programme in Bonn if you have at least 3 years of work experience by the time the MBA-Programme starts. (Read about other admissions criteria)

If you have started your Bachelor-Programme directly after finishing your Abitur, then probably you will not yet have sufficient work experience.

In some cases, candidates have already completed a first education (e.g. IHK Kauffrau /Kaufmann), and started their Bachelorstudies in Part-Time, whilst remaining in fulltime employment. In this case it is likely that they fulfil the requirement and can prove that they have 3 years work experience.

Generally, it is important to point out that every MBA-Programme which is internationally accredited (for instance by AMBA/AACSB) requires that applicants have at least 3 years of relevant fulltime work experience before starting an MBA programme.

Why is work experience important?

An MBA differs from other postgraduate Master programmes in that it requires relevant work experience, because it is important that students can apply their business experience to the theoretical contcepts they are taught during the lecture.

Students will be asked to work on specific business case studies which requires drawing on previous experience of similar situations.
